The Premier League has been heavily influenced by the introduction of foreign players during the course of the 1990’s, who have added a real spark to the spectacle. However, British players have failed to return the favour, with almost every player seeking a European adventure returning home with their tale tucked between their legs.
The latest player to be linked with a move abroad is Tottenham’s Gareth Bale, who is believed to be attracting interest from the likes of Barcelona, Real Madrid and AC Milan, after his comments regarding Spurs’ Champions league hopes.
The Welshman may well turn out to be hit if he swaps the British Isles for the Continent, yet he may want to look at a few examples of home-grown players who have failed to adapt to a new footballing culture.
