Scottish Premier League outfit Celtic are already romping towards yet another title, with Brendan Rodgers’ men currently nine points clear of fierce rivals Rangers in second and holding a game in hand over Mark Warburton’s newly promoted side.
The Glaswegian giants are still clinging onto their place in the Champions League too, with important games over Barcelona and Manchester City to come, although realistically they are battling it out with Borussia Monchengladbach for a place in the Europa League.
Regardless of what happens in the Champions League, Rodgers’ impact since arriving in the summer has been evident and the Celtic fans here in the Transfer Tavern are mightily chuffed with their new boss.
One of the Hoops’ most ardent supporters is puffing on his e-cigarette in the smoking area and he believes that although the squad is strong already, Rodgers might still look to dip his toe into the market during January.
Transfer Tavern writer Lee Clarke looks at two Italian players who the Celtic boss should try and sign during the next transfer window.
Fabio Borini
Brendan Rodgers knows all about the Sunderland striker having managed him at both Swansea City and Liverpool and a reunion makes perfect sense.
The Italian talisman is currently nursing a groin injury although he is set to return to action at the end of November.
Sunderland might look to cut their losses on several players during the January transfer window with relegation to the Championship looking increasingly likely, and Borini would be a quality signing for a club in the Scottish Premier League.
Matteo Darmian
The Manchester United right-back is not in Jose Mourinho’s good books and he looks set for a move away from the English giants in the January transfer window.
Although he is currently a first-team regular due to Antonio Valencia’s injury, it is unlikely that he will stay in the side once Mourinho dips into the transfer market during the next window.
Darmian would be a coup for a Scottish club and he would be an asset to Brendan Rodgers’ side.
Celtic fans, would you welcome these two Italians to the club? Which other players would you like to see signed?
