Leeds United’s transfer window doesn’t seem to be going as they would like it at the moment.
The Whites have looked into signing a number of players, but they keep on suffering knockbacks.
Whether it’s Ralph Hasenhuttl saying that Che Adams won’t be able to leave on loan or Rhian Brewster joining Swansea, the Yorkshire club haven’t had things go their way.
Unfortunately, another of their transfer plans has been scuppered as Liverpool rebuffed their approach for Curtis Jones.
However, that may not necessarily be a bad thing.
Leeds have to be very careful when choosing who they want to loan in January as they already have four loanees in their ranks, and EFL rules state they’re only allowed five in a matchday squad.
Therefore, their next loanee would fill up that quota, so it is a special spot that shouldn’t be wasted on a man who would be unlikely to get a game.
Jones has shown his talents at Liverpool with his wonder strike against Everton earlier this month, but is he really good enough to be a starter for Leeds at this moment in time?
The Whites are pushing for promotion, and they can’t really afford to take a gamble on Jones by offering game time to someone who has played just one senior league match in his career.
In some ways, the 18-year-old would be the midfield version of Eddie Nketiah. He started just two league games for Leeds and Jones may have found himself in a similar scenario.
He may have potential, but it would be a struggle to surpass the likes of Pablo Hernandez, Mateusz Klich and Tyler Roberts in attacking midfield positions.
You only need to look at how another midfield loanee, Izzy Brown, did last season to realise the risks. He played just twice from the bench in the Championship.
Leeds need to be cannier when bringing in another loanee.
Meanwhile, fans of a Premier League club have been urging their team to sign one Leeds man.
