Newcastle United may be at Championship level, but Rafael Benitez has got them firing. So much so that they have recorded more goals than any team in the Premier League. The Magpies have netted a whopping 69 league goals in the second tier, which is 11 more than Benitez’s former club Liverpool, who lead the way in the top flight this season. It is worth noting that Benitez’s men have played nine games more, but it does not detract from their impressive figures. In fact, Opta has revealed that no team in England’s first four divisions have found the back of the net more times than Newcastle.
The North-East outfit were relegated to the Championship last season, and were tipped to immediately return to the elite level, mainly because of their manager.
Benitez has coached in the top echelons of the game with Liverpool, Inter Milan, Chelsea, Napoli and Real Madrid, so having this calibre of manager in charge was always going to be a huge boost to Newcastle’s Championship campaign.
As it stands, the Magpies sit at the top of the league table with a three-point advantage over Brighton.
Dwight Gayle is the club’s current top scorer with 21 goals.
